I started dignigg into my family's history some three years ago but only ordered Organizing Your Family History Search one year ago, because I realized that I urgently needed a system for organizing the mountain of documents I had accumulated. De Bartolo's book came in very handy to learn how to start this intimidating task.In her book, she describes two main methods of organizing the many papers a genealogist will inevitably collect. I carefully read her suggestions, then decided on one of the two methods simply because it seemed to suit me better. I liked that she gives alternatives and also points out that one might just as well combine the two methods. She doesn't MAKE people go a certain route with organizing their papers, but discusses the advantages and disadvantages of both methods thus gving the readers room to adapt her methods to their individual needs. She also offers plenty of organizational forms which readers can copy for their records. I took them as a basis for designing my own forms on my computer This book is especially useful for novices/beginners in the field of genealogy because on top of helping organize one's documents, it puts structure into one's reasearch, giving the reader a perspective for what is useful, and what might be disregarded in the search for one's history. And because it is so adaptable, many people will find their ideal way to go with it.No one should throw oneself into genealogy without this book!

Trying to find out if Aniela and Anna Blecharska are buried there. Aniela has a death notice of 9-16-1957. No date for daughter Anna.
Looking forward to this searchable database to come online, in the meantime thanks so much for your help.

[...] Lewandowski, Depew New York Posted by Mike on April 23rd, 2012 Another family name that was mentioned frequently to me as a child was Lewandowski. My grandmother talked about her cousin a Leon Lewandowski who lived in Depew New York. Recently I discovered that my grandmother’s mother Walentyna Habecka had a sister Helena who married a Josef Lewandowski. That fits the profile for cousin. I’m now trying to track down one of the Lewandowski descendants to see if they have any information that could help confirm this. Hoping someone from their family has started tracing their family tree. The issue here is Leon passed in 1955 and apart from his wife Helena attending my grandfather’s funeral in 1961, I don’t believe anyone has had contact with them in almost 50 years. I do have an obituary card from Leon’s funeral that my late grandmother kept. I was able to locate the obituary in an old polish newspaper called Dziennik Dla Wsystkich. [...]

Carolyn,

Thank you for your kind words. This translation guide was based on the Dziennik Translation Guide of the Polish Genealogical Society of America. However, it contains translations for churches in the Buffalo area and other phrases not found in the Chicago Dziennik dla Wszyskich death notices.

Based on your comment, it doesn’t seem as though you check the Buffalo Dziennik dla Wszystkich for your grandmother’s brother’s death notice. The death notice would list family relations and possible other information you don’t have. Send and e-mail to ekornowski@aol.com and ask him to search for him. You’ll be glad you did.

Thank you so much for the death notice translation guide. My family is mostly in Baltimore, MD, but my grandmother's brother moved to Buffalo, so I was also looking into NY records. I had 4 mass cards from the funerals and all are in Polish - your guide has helped me so much! I wanted you to know how thankful I am for you work. And I found him in a Buffalo Census with his family members! I'm so excited! Thanks again!

Do you have any information on Katarzyna Banaszak who died 1935? I have a photo of her grave from St. Adalbert's Cemetery.
Also, Jozefa and Marcin Banaszak. I have a photo of this headstone but cannot make out the engraving for Jozefa. Info?
My husband's Great Grandfather was Gabryel Banaszak. I have a photo of his monument but not of Petronela his wife. Marianna Banaszak Skotarski was Gabryel's daughter.
This is a lot to ask. If you have a listing with the Banaszak graves would you email it to me.
Thanks Camille Jenson
