Wojciech Sulek was born April 7, 1854 in the village of Debno in the province of Galicja (then Austrian-held Poland). Upon completion of his studies for the priesthood, Sulek was ordained by Bishop Alojzy Pukalski of Tarnow on July 31, 1878. He was first assigned to serve as vicar to various parishes in his native Galicja. After having volunteered to do missionary work in Brazil and spending five years there, he traveled to the United States where he worked among the Poles immigrating to the "New World".
Sulek traveled throughout the United States; his name appears in many church records including those in Yonkers, NY; New Castle and Lansford, PA; and Northampton and Sheppton in the Diocese of Philadelphia. In the Buffalo Diocese, he served the people of St. Stanislaus Parish, was pastor of St. Hyacinth Church in Dunkirk and assisted Ks. Wiktor Zareczny at St. Adalbert Parish. Although this is not mentioned in the church’s history, the November 13, 1890 publication of The Catholic Union and Times stated that Rev. Sulek was appointed pastor of the fifth Polish parish in Buffalo, St. John Kanty. Later traveling westward Sulek ministered in Chicago and at a Polish parish in Marchses, AR. He lastly went to the Philadelphia area where he died in 191?
